The paintings are built up around unearthly geometric shapes in sloping landscapes or dark spaces.
The continual tension between the slopes and spaces, the growth and the geometry are the fuel for my paintings. Sometimes the buildings and intersections are realistic; and have a science fiction "feel", sometimes they seem to evaporate in a compositional game of perspective lines and coloured areas. A play on construction and deconstruction, on coherence and incoherence.
By mixing abstract and figurative forms, i create landscapes that teeter on the brink of becoming nightmares. Sceneries that might have been discovered by an accidental tourist.

De schilderijen zijn opgebouwd rond natuurlijke geometrische vormen in glooiende
landschappen of open "spaces". De voortdurende spanning tussen hellingen en ruimte,
licht en donker, hard en zacht zijn de brandstof voor mijn schilderijen.
Meestal zijn de bouwsels abstract maar soms lijkt het beeld narratief en een verhaal te suggereren uit
een duistere science fiction scene. Dan weer lijken de beelden te verdampen in een compositorisch spel
van perspectivische lijnen en gekleurde gebieden; een spel met
constructie en deconstructie, met coherentie en incoherentie.
Abstracte en figuratieve vormen worden kleurrijke landschappen, wankelend op
de rand van een nachtmerrie. Scenarios ontdekt door een toevallige toerist...
